How to Get to Nami Island

Located just outside the bustling capital in Chuncheon, Nami Island is one of South Korea's most famous day-trip destinations. Known for its iconic tree-lined walking paths, peaceful riverside views, and scenic seasonal landscapes, it's a must-vist for any Seoul itinerary. 

However, because Nami Island is located about 63 kilometers (39miles) northeast of Seoul, figuring out how to get there can be confusing for first-time visitors. 
In this guide, I'll break down all your transportation options—from direct shuttle buses to trains and tour packages so you can pick the best route for your trip! 

Direct Shuttle Bus (Most recommended)

If you want a stress-free journey, taking the official Nami Island Shuttle Bus is hands-down the best choice for international tourists. 
It picks you up right in central Seoul and drops you off directly at the Nami Island Ferry Dock—No transfers required!

📌Pickup Locations & Schedules
The shuttle bus departs once daily in the morning
from three major tourist hubs in Seoul.

• Hongdae: Departs at 7:30 AM (Hongik Univ. Station, Exit 4)
• Myeongdong: Departs at 8:00 AM (Namsan Yejang Public Parking Lot)
• Dongdaemun: Departs at 8:10 AM (Dongdaemun History&Culture Park Station, Exit 9)

Metro & Train(ITX-Cheongchun)

While taking the train sounds like a standard option, 
We generally don't recommend this route for first-time travelers. 
It requires multiple subway transfers in Seoul, a ride on the ITX-Cheongchun train to Gapyeong Station, and then another local bus or taxi ride just to reach the ferry dock. 

Between timing the transfers and navigating crowds, it can be verly complicated and ends up taking longer than expected..

• Metro + ITX Train: $8-$10 USD one-way 
• Taxi from Gapyeong Station to Ferry Dock: ~$5 USD
• Total Round-Trip: $25-$30 USD per person

Rental Car

Renting a car gives you maximum flexibility, allowing you to travel at your own pace and easily visit nearby attractions like The Garden of Morning Calm or Petite France.

• Travel Time: 1 to 1.5 hours (depending heavily on traffic)
• Parking Fee: about $4.5 USD flat daily rate at the Nami Island ferry parking lot. 
• Keep in Mind: Weekend traffic leaving Seoul toward Gapyeong can be extremely heavy, especially during peak foliage seasons in October and November. An International Driving Permit (IDP) and a valid driver's license are strictly required.
